L leucine review

Customer reviews

Through some research I've discovered some important things about when and how to take Leucine.

1) Do not take before your workout. Leucine stimulates the production of glycogen from glucose, and simultaneously prevents glycogen's breakdown into glucose, so you won't be getting enough energy to your muscles during your workout.

2) Do not take leucine without food or in a fasted state. if you want to prevent catabolism, or muscle breakdown, take HMB. Leucine should be reserved for times you want to promote muscle synthesis, or anabolism.

3) Do not take leucine consistently throughout the day. Leucine can cause insulin resistance when taken in large amounts and too consistently.

4) Do not take in the morning. This is not an optimum time to build muscle anyway, as your body's natural cortisol spike is then. Wait until afternoon/evening.

1) Take leucine with meals. Leucine signals muscle synthesis, so making sure you have the protein, carbohydrates and nutrients to go along with that is key. Taking leucine with a meal ensures you'll get a useful spike in insulin, and the body can get straight to building muscle.

2) Take leucine intermittently in spikes. Choose a large meal toward the end of the day to take your leucine so you're body will have a lot to build muscle with and can build it while cortisol is low in the evening and while sleeping. On days you workout, taking it with a meal after you workout and a meal in the evening can still make sense. Avoid taking it during every meal during the day to prevent insulin resistance.

So, a proper dosing schedule would be a tablespoon with dinner, and on days you have an especially heavy workout, a tablespoon with a meal after working out and another teaspoon with an evening meal before bed.

Finally, a trusted source.

At the age of 62 I began reading articles on anti aging, cellular health, muscle growth and muscle growth stimulation etc. The next challenge was finding a SOURCE of quality products and I've found that in BulkSupplements. From day one I could tell the difference from this product, and the other sources I had used in the past. Example: I walk 10,000 steps a day at ONE TIME, not cumulative. After starting the anti aging program of supplementation I blew thru those 10,000 like a I was 25 years old, no heavy breathing, no exhaustion etc. I'm no scientist, but after a week on the various products from BulkSupplements I knew I was getting what I ordered. Second example: CLA 1000mg capsules. CLA is a powerful anti-inflammatory. I kid you not, within 4 hours of the capsule the inflammation in my right hand was GONE. I think I'm getting what I pay for with BulkSupplements vs. "other sources". Thank you for the great products you sell.

Impressed by Leucine's ability to increase muscle protein synthesis and decrease recovery time

This amino acid has the ability to increase muscle protein synthesis and reduce delayed onset muscle soreness. I noticed this effect immediately upon the first use in my post workout drink after a challenging full-body resistance training session. Whereas I would have been considerably more sore without the additional leucine powder by bulksupplements, I was able to perform cardio and stretching the next day and repeat the full-body resistance training session the following day.

I am impressed by the quality of this product as well as the breadth of the Bulk supplements product line.

This company stands behind their products and incentivizes subsequent purchases, all of which I have been highly satisfied with

Fix from the inside

By H KULYK on March 8, 2017

Part of my new internal body repair regime. Did not expect such fast results in energy but can't wait to see the actual repair to organs. I studied the use of aminos for health years ago but decided to actually use it to fix a few body breakdowns. Wish I did this sooner.

great value and product

The exercise physiologists used to talk a lot about BCAAs and how important they are for muscle growth, fat loss, and even life extension, but it's now known that only one of the BCAAs is truly important: leucine. This leucine from Bulk Supplements is practically tasteless, so it can be added to almost any food, and at 250 grams worth, will last you awhile at say a couple grams a dose. Great value and product, I never hesitate to order anything from Bulk Supplements.

As always, a good product from BulkSupp. I make my own preworkout and protein shakes, so unflavored pure products are a must. Leucine is the best of the 3 BCAAs, so you can't go wrong with this. It comes as a white powder (almost like baby powder consistency), mixes well, and has virtually no flavor by itself.

Every time you make a money purchase they give you a free bag of any other supplement from their store, provided it is something you haven't received before. Good marketing gimmick to get you hooked, but also a great way to try a new supplement for free. Also, they send you the smallest size, it is usually big enough to last a good month or more.

A must for seniors.

By John C. on June 24, 2017

Another outstanding product from my favorite supplement supplier. Older weight training gym rats should consider adding extra Leucine as their bodies aren't as efficient as they once were. I'm 71 and have only been working out 9 years and I'm a show stopper at the gym. I was brought up believing muscle building stops at 50. Now with supplements, it seems only to stop when breathing does.

I purchased this after doing some research into body building and consistently seeing leucine mentioned as one of the most important amino acids to deliver after a workout. I looked for the recommended dosage, checked my regular whey protein supplement and realized it only delivers about half of the amount. I was already going to purchase another supplement from this seller, so grabbed another one as well. I have now been using is as recommended (1 tsp twice a day) and have seen some improvement in strength at the gym. However, this might also be attributed to the beta alanine supplement I purchased at the same time and have been using together with this one. In any way, I am happy with the purchase. The product dissolves well and it's a great price for the amount. The only drawback is the taste, it's really gross so I dissolve it in a half cup of milk, chug it and chase with a glass of water. It is not so noticeable when added to a full cup of milk and whey protein powder though.

difficult to use and more difficult to stomach

By Techjunkie on November 29, 2016

Affordable, but nasty. It's universally accepted that L-Leucine tastes gross, so no surprise there. Worst part with this one is that it just doesn't mix into water. It gets scumy and foamy. Best I've been able to manage is to put it in a shaker, shake the heck out of it, then let the foam settle as it chills in the fridge. Never had that problem with recovery blends containing this amino. I'll stick to the premade blends for convenience and taste.
